Connected across borders: 25 years of Connekt – International growth and the future

Shortly after its founding, ITS Netherlands followed, making Connekt the official representative of the Netherlands in the intelligent transport systems (ITS) sector. This made Connekt a key player within the ITS Nationals network, which now spans more than 30 countries and 2,500 members, stimulating international cooperation.
Growth and impact: from then to now
Over the years, Connekt has developed into an international connector in mobility and logistics. What began as a national network quickly grew into an organization with influential international collaborations. Initiatives such as the Smart Mobility Embassy, Lean & Green International, and International Affairs in Brussels strengthen the position of Dutch innovations worldwide. Through active participation in trade fairs, conferences, and trade missions, Connekt has increased its visibility and impact as an international player.

1. Smart Mobility Embassy: international network for smart mobility
Connekt’s Smart Mobility Embassy connects Dutch innovations with foreign governments, startups, and networks such as embassies and consulates. Through events and collaborations, cross-border mobility solutions are facilitated, and Dutch innovations in smart and sustainable mobility are promoted worldwide.
2. ITS Nationals: strengthening global cooperation
Connekt plays a key role within the ITS Nationals network, which includes more than 30 countries and 2,500 members. As the official representative of the Netherlands in the ITS sector, Connekt promotes cooperation between ITS organizations and facilitates the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovations that further develop the global mobility sector.
3. International Affairs: European cooperation and digital logistics innovation
Within the International Affairs program, Connekt focuses on European policymaking and digitalization. Connekt actively participates in the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum and supports members with European grant applications and strategic policy initiatives. In addition, Connekt leads the BoostEDIC project M&L, which contributes to the digitalization of mobility and logistics and strengthens the position of Dutch companies in Europe.
4. Lean & Green International: sustainable logistics and network expansion
Through Lean & Green International, Connekt supports similar organizations abroad that help companies and governments reduce CO2 emissions within logistics chains. Through these collaborations, Connekt contributes to the transition to more sustainable transport solutions and supports global supply chains in achieving more efficient and sustainable logistics.
International cooperation and impact
Connekt acts as a bridge builder between Dutch and foreign parties and supports companies in realizing their international ambitions. Through strategic partnerships with ITS organizations and collaboration with embassies and consulates, Connekt facilitates knowledge exchange and joint projects. In addition, Connekt contributes to the development of global mobility standards and guidelines, ensuring that Dutch expertise is integrated into international frameworks.
Vision for the future: the next 25 years
Digitalization, sustainability, and international cooperation remain key points in Connekt’s strategy for the next 25 years. The mobility sector faces new challenges, such as the integration of autonomous vehicles, data-driven traffic management, and the further sustainability of logistics. Connekt is committed to expanding its international network and strengthening its role as a facilitator of innovative collaborations. By focusing on technological progress and sustainable mobility solutions, Connekt remains a crucial player in the future of global mobility.
