History

  • The initial phase

    The history of Connekt can be divided into several phases. In the first phase, Connekt implemented a subsidy program in the field of mobility and logistics. Connekt's employees were also paid from this program during this period. A well-known example from this early phase is the FAMAS program, in which the container terminal of the future was designed. At the end of 2003, the subsidy program expired. Since this was the only source of income, it seemed it would also mean the end of Connekt. To be able to continue, the organization was transformed into a network organization.

  • Trusted third party

    In this new role, Connekt facilitated consultations between network members: meeting space and coffee were available. This gave rise to the idea that it is valuable to have a place where public and private parties can consult with each other safely and openly. As a result, Connekt grew into a trusted third party.

  • Start of initiatives

    Soon, the network began asking whether Connekt could also contribute substantively. Thus, Connekt started to set agendas for themes that were important to the sector. During this period, Lean & Green was also launched, a program that remains successful to this day.

  • The next phase

    In 2007, a new phase began. Thanks to its strong network of governments and companies, the government asked Connekt to also implement programs. This happened: for example, the anti-accident systems for trucks program, the Impulse Dynamic Traffic Management Waterways (IDVV) program, and the Top Sector Logistics were set up. On September 14, 2017, the Smart Mobility Embassy was launched during the IAA in Frankfurt. This initiative forms Connekt's international community and connects members with partners across almost the entire world.

  • More impact

    In 2019, Connekt decided to set a new course once again. Members indicated a need for more focus and structure. The new strategy stipulated that Connekt wants to make more impact by doing less. Since then, the organization has focused on two substantive domains: smart mobility and sustainable logistics. In doing so, new insights and experiences from other sectors are actively incorporated into the challenges at hand. In addition, Connekt remains involved in supporting major programs. In 2024, Top Sector Logistics 3 was launched, with Connekt once again being part of the program office. Connekt also supports the implementation of the Modal Shift program, Digital Infrastructure Logistics, and CO2 Measuring and Improvement.
