Smart and sustainable mobility

The Netherlands is a top-tier logistics country. We hold a prominent position worldwide. However, our accessibility and mobility are under pressure. The space for infrastructure expansion is limited. Therefore, we must use available resources more efficiently. The 'Beter Benutten' (Better Utilization) program, in which governments and the business community collaborate closely, exists for a reason. CGI plays a leading role in this area. We are fully aware that good accessibility and mobility are prerequisites for economic growth, and that our clients and the Dutch economy can compete more effectively thanks to efficient (and sustainable!) transport by road, water, rail, and air.

International ecosystem

Spread across 40 countries, more than 3,000 CGI professionals work on innovations in the field of traffic and transport for organizations in the public, commercial, and financial sectors. Our vision for the future is that all these parties connect within a single international ecosystem, supported by our broad knowledge of the traffic and transport domain and our specific IT services, for example in the areas of supply chain management, 'mobile and connected business', energy, and sustainability. For years, we have been involved in a large number of European projects concerning Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). We conduct research and invest in mobility projects to make traffic safer, more efficient, more reliable, and more environmentally friendly. We are happy to share our findings and know-how with all parties—private or public, and active in the transport of people or goods.

Move smarter!

A few practical examples of our collaboration with clients and partners:

  • We participate in European projects such as EURIDICE and iCargo, focusing on the exchange of real-time information within the logistics chain.
  • With our IBOR solution, we can remotely operate dynamic objects in public spaces—such as lampposts, bridges, and traffic lights.
  • Rijkswaterstaat works with us on the management and maintenance of mission-critical applications for the main road network, including information systems that help better anticipate weather conditions or traffic congestion.
  • Through the development of the Sigma system, ProRail has direct insight into the state of our rail network, allowing for increased rail safety.
  • CGI is building the NDW Central Information System (NCIS). This new system will collect and transmit traffic data from all road authorities collaborating within the NDW. The ultimate goal is to improve traffic flow and road safety.
  • CGI and TU Delft collaborate in DiTTLab, the Delft Integrated Traffic & Travel Laboratory. In DiTTLab, researchers and students analyze traffic and transport data from sensor networks to develop the next generation of applications for dynamic traffic management.
