TNO works towards a reliable, clean, safe, and smart mobility system
Traffic flow on the Dutch road network has improved; a significant gain for our mobility. However, plenty of new challenges remain. More people are moving to cities, and our society continues to age and become more individualized. Our mobility needs are changing, and with them, the market of providers and suppliers of mobility products and services.
To address these challenges, TNO works on innovations together with public and private partners, both domestically and abroad. We assist our clients in formulating their ambitions, developing new products and services, and providing insight into the effects and possibilities of new technologies. In doing so, we also consider non-technical matters, such as legislation, risks, and business cases. Through our participation in European projects and collaboration with universities, we understand the field and make scientific knowledge applicable. From an integrated perspective on the mobility arena, we develop in-depth knowledge at the intersection of road, vehicle, and human factors.
The current transport system can be substantially improved. In particular, the application of ICT in both vehicles and infrastructure enables integrated traffic and transport management. TNO possesses the facilities and methodologies to develop and test such systems. For example, together with various public and private partners, TNO has invested significant energy into the establishment of the Dutch Integrated Testsite for Cooperative Mobility (DITCM), the European living lab.
TNO also sees opportunities to make traffic safer, cleaner, and quieter. Cleaner through the introduction of new powertrain technologies, emission purification, and the promotion of more fuel-efficient driving behavior.
TNO helps companies ensure their logistics grow alongside the increasing dynamics and complexity of trade and production processes. We develop innovative logistics concepts and advise on collaboration between shippers.
