On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., another new series of MMI meetings will get under way. MMI meetings are all about knowledge-sharing and discussion on a specific theme by and for Connekt members. DAVI (Dutch Automated Vehicle Initiative) has used the first MMI as an opportunity to examine three topical issues linked to self-driving vehicles.
The following presentations/introductions to discussions will be on the agenda:
- Gerben Feddes, RDW: Licensing the ‘TESLA autopilot software’ for use on Europe’s roads
If you are the proud owner of a TESLA Model S or – in the not too distant future – a Model X, software updates will be sent directly to your car from time to time. One of the most talked-about updates is the autopilot update, which will be used to add new functions to the vehicle and enable it to drive itself under certain conditions. But how should you handle this update as a licensing authority? How do you ensure road safety without standing in the way of innovation? - Ferry Smith, ANWB: My Car My Data
The ANWB recently launched the My Car My Data campaign. This aims to make consumers aware of the fact that many ‘connected’ vehicles send usage data about which consumers have no knowledge and over which they have no control. Ferry Smith will talk about the background to this campaign. - Filippo Santoni, TU Delft: Ethics in the self-driving car
How should self-driving cars behave when it comes to ethically and legally relevant decisions? Who should be held responsible for self-driving cars’ (wrong) behavior? Filippo will offer his legal-philosophical perspective on these questions. Presentation in English.
As always, after the meeting there will be a chance to carry on the discussion informally over a drink at the Connekt BAR. If you would like to take part in the meeting, you can register by sending an e-mail to Hanny Swart.
